I’m thinking about traveling down to the Springer Mountain area next week. Are there campgrounds in the area that will be open? I’m planning on doing some day hiking. The weather forecast is for mild weather next week, I’m hoping to camp out and not freeze.

i don’t know of any campgrounds that wouldn’t be open right now around that area. vogel s.p. is much closer to blood mtn than springer mtn but day hiking blood mtn is just as enjoyable as day hiking springer. from amicalola (where you can park) to the springer summit it is an appx 8 mile hike one way, from neels gap (where you can park-it is just a couple of miles past vogel s.p.) to the summit of blood mtn. it is only a several mile round trip hike. fort mountain s.p. is an appx. 30 mile drive from amicalola falls and the a.t. but there are plenty of camping and delightful day hiking opportunities in that area. have fun. the weather should be beautiful there next week. it has been a traditionally mild GA winter so far.
