Camping segment 5 and 6

I have my trail databook (waiting for others to arrive) and I’m looking at the green triangles that indicate camping locations. Is Kenosha Pass the only place to camp in segment 5, and do you have to go all the way to mile 19.7 on segment 6 before camping. That’s a 2000 ft elevation gain then descend the same without a camping spot. The book says camp in campsites already in place. Is there really no campsite for 20 miles?

There are relatively flat spots all along the trail. It really depends on whether or not you want to sleep on a slope or not. Segment 5 is loaded with spots. Rock creek has some great spots, Johnson Gulch has a few decent areas, mainly back in the trees to the left as you climb out of the gulch. There are several others as you ascend, but if you are going to camp up high, you might want to keep an eye on the skies and be prepared for rain in the event of a rogue thunderstorm. You don’t go above treeline, but you do have a few clear areas.
