CAMPO - Pacific Crest Trail

It seems my ride from LA can only give me a lift in the afternoon of either 2 days, meaning I wouldn’t get to Campo until about 6pm. Does anyone know info about this Live Oak SPrings place that might offer lodging or another alternative. Is camping pretty close to the border legit? I probably would only be able to get a couple miles before dusk. THanks for any thoughts.

A-Train:

Right behind the ‘Trading Post’ store in Campo (accross the bridge to left) is the Gaskill Brothers Stone Store Museum.

Last year, Smack, Hellcat, and I were invited to camp there (bathrooms, water, nice tentsites) by Rich, the very hospitable care-taker of the museum. He even opened up the museum after hours & showed us an interesting movie on the history of Campo!

Just be sure to ask for permission to camp there before doing so. Rich was living in an RV about a hundred yards from the museum last year. The town is tiny, so the Trading Post owner could probably track Rich down for you. Or, maybe search online and email Rich if you can find a website.

Have a great hike!
