What do you recommend for camp shoes? Do people just where sandles? I’m looking for a second pair of lightweight loafers that I can where when I’m out of my boots.

if you want light weight you can get croqs, they are awesome, kind of exspensive i think 29$, i got the walmart brand, only 9$ and weigh 4.8oz, i think they are lighter than croqs

if you’re gonna go the crocs route, might i suggest nothinz, i have the only ones i have ever seen, i got them at mt. rogers outfitters in damascus, but i personally think they are a ton more comfortable than the crocs

I suggest River shoes- I had crocs, but they were cumbersome and I hardly used them I mostly used my hike boots until I found some cheap river shoes @ a pharmacy ($5) and they folded up nicely and they were light also and…I could swim with them and run in the woods and even poop with them on. OH JOY…

Crok’s are great, but any sort of sandal will do, really. It’s nice to have ones that hold to your feet better than flip-flop types when you get to Maine and have to start fording, or on the off chance you’d need to hike in them, which happens sometimes. Personally I think Crok’s are way too expensive.

Croks rule!!! I took my boots off as soon as I got to camp. I took my boots off at lunch. I took my boots off every chance I got. Let those puppies breathe. I hike in 806 Newbalance now and I still carry my Croks. I just hang them on the back of my pack and go. I wear them all the time at home, to the store, everywhere … until my wife says put something else on before we go out. They last a long time.

I used to wear a pair of lined moccasin slippers with the rubber bottom. They are nice and toasty and can be worn in the sleeping bag when it was real cold. I recently bought a pair of LL Bean slippers that are shaped like Crocs but have a felt upper and light rubber sole. They are feather light and warm.

I also picked up a pair of Nothinz at the Mt. Rodgers Outfitter in Damascus. Wore them all the way home (to Balt) and continue to wear them to/from my training hikes, as well as around town. Very nice! A little pricey (similar to Crocs), so I’ll check out the Walmart brand. Also, The Outfitters at Harper’s Ferry, W.Va carries them. I agree that sandals make one’s feet more vulnerable to sticks and such. However, it’s nice to let the dogs breathe while the hiking shoes get a much needed airing out!:boy
