Have any thru hikers ever worked in a loud or even semi-loud job before starting your hike and had ringing in your ears. Not loud, just the ring you get from "work noise",and has it gone away, how long after you started, etc.I'm just reaching for another excuse to Johnny Paycheck my job(thats right, shove it!)before my planned 2015 hike and shoot for '14.My health is more impotant to me than any job.

Ear plugs would be a cheaper solution but far less adventuresome. Just go! (And bring the earplugs to drown out the snoring of your shelter mates.) :D

If you are like me, it's called tinninis (sp?). Sounds like seventeen year locusts all the time. Ear plugs won't work, just have to get used to it. Someone suggested professional hearing device but it's probably nerve damage on my part. Hope yours gets better with the quiet of the trail.
