After a career in the infantry I’m starting to hike for recreation NOBO section hike across VA this summer. I really like my propane canister stove - should I mail canisters ahead or can I count on availability at stores adjacent to the AT?

While it is a bit less available than alcohol, I had no real trouble last year while on my thru-hike. I found cannisters in most of the trail towns - either at the hostel and hiker-type hotels (the Rendevouz in Pearisburg had it) or at the local outfitters (in both Daleville & Waynesboro). Do not remember seeing any in in Bland or Atkins. Think I just carried 2 out of Damascus.
