Please excuse the “newbie” question, but I bought my first canister (butane/propane) stove. My question is… When not in use, is it better to take the stove part off the canister or leave it attached. ie stowed away in the pack.

Abbub. Yes. If you have a pocket rocket, keep the stove body in the plastic home. Most others come with a bag of some type. There’s a couple of problems if you leave them connected. First, you may bend the stove and not be able to use it. Second, there’s always the change that while inside your pack the knob may be turned, allowing your fuel to fizzle away.
