Just read a thru’s journal that the Caratunk house is clsoed?? Did they close early for the season or are they permenantly closed? Last year I was there early October. I just told a friend about that place who set out yesterday to finish up her hike with Maine, don’t want to get her hopes us if it is truly closed.

Yep, I heard it was closing at the end of this season, I think they’re selling up. You never know, it might re open again next year under new management…watch this space.

It’s been on the market for awhile I believe. A bunch of hikers have mentioned it in journals, Stumpknocker was even considering buying it. It was supposed to be closed this yr as Paul was on the PCT but I guess jumped off and came back to open for a bit this year. Believe he has plans to hike the PCT next yr and is definately not gonna re-open. I’ll be in Caratunk this weekend and will report back and info I learn.

that sucks that the caratunk house is closed. i was there last year and that dude paul makes awesome food and is all around a good dude. word to hikers, if he opens up again, go there.

I’m trying to talk my husband into looking into this. If not, Lonesome Dove and I are going to buy it and run the hostel ourselves! j/k. sort of. She and I had a long conversation about it this week when I met her in the Wilderness. Paul is definitely out, it’s for sale, and even if it doesn’t sell soon, he’s off to the PCT again next year. I spoke to him Labor Day in person for the Companion update.
He’s open as of now through the end of the month I believe.
