if you plan on doing some long hikeing north or south of carvers gap be very prepaired 2 feet or more snow on the trail i made it to the top of roan mountain not easy i broke trail fron the parking lot at carvers going south waist deep snow in some parts. the trees were hanging down over the trail so you could not see the trail or the white blaze on the trees because they were covered in snow bobcat.
