From Yosemite to Whitney, any situations where a credit card won’t work? For instance, do I need cash to pay for the night in a backpackers’ campground?

can't think of any spot but take like 200 and you'll be fine

We stayed at the vagrant’s/backpacker’s campground at Tuolumne Meadows and paid in the drop box, nobody ever checked - as long as you have your wilderness permits I don’t think they require you to pay.

Cash is handy for bus rides and small little purchases (more sunscreen for instance)
