CDT near Ghost Ranch NM

I am an AT hiker who finds that I am going to be spending some time in about 3 weeks in New Mexico, at and around Ghost Ranch. I understand the CDT goes either through there or very close to there, and thought maybe I could do a little hiking on it while I’m there. I will be attending a reunion of my Peace Corps group. We trained at Ghost Ranch 40 years ago. Any info about the CDT in that area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You’re probably already there, but the main CDT route most people hike goes right through Ghost Ranch. so, you can head north up the obvious canyon… though, once you get up on top of the mesa, it gets less interesting. And/or you can head south and follow the road along the Rio Chama, crossing on Skull Bridge, and you should find a trailhead. This hike south from there is a nice little walk along a minor sandstone “canyon-ette” - a pretty little area. If possible, you can also skip ahead south to the San Pedro Parks area just north of Cuba for some nice wandering on cool “parkland” (mix of forests and meadows) at about 10,000ft. The CDT goes through the middle of this as well…
