Check out EBAY for “solar cell phone charges” I found some interesting options that would also charge flash light and camera batteies

I’m not an experienced thru-hiker (yet) but I did bike cross-country, and what I found to work was that I would plug my charger into an outlet behind a vending machine while I was grocery shopping (if there was an extra outlet). Also, behind most stores near the mechanical equipment (air conditioners, etc) there are usually outlets for the servicemen to use. Those worked for me several times as well.
I also rationed battery power by planning to only have the phone on for certain hours every day (I did 6-9pm Eastern) so everyone knew when I was available and when I was out of touch. This way one good battery charge lasted about a week.

I learned from an old mountain man that if you plug the phone into the recharger, grab the end of the cord and swing it in circle over your head really fast until you crash the phone into a tree, the batteries will actually out last the phone. Please pick up the pieces before you leave.
