Charity hike - Appalachian Trail

Well since I’ve set my dates and am determined to go. I thought i would do a little to add determination to my goal and help those who need help while im at it. I will be attempting to raise money for charity on a cents per mile basis. Much like MS walks or other fund raisers you may be familiar with. The groups I will be donating to will be Unicef, to help aid those affected by the Sunami, Christian Children’s Fund , to feed the Hungry , and also a CWF campaign i know is trying to raise enough money to build a water well in Kenya, Africa. these will be at 30% each and the last 10% will go to preserve the appalaichain trail. I will try to update anyone interested on my progress and if anyone would like info on donating please just contact me by email darynhemerson@yahoo.com with questions or donations. Right now it is a work in progress I am drawing up forms and speaking with the organizations. I am also hoping for some corporate dontations hopefully sponsorships but am talking with REI to see if they may donate some equip. I look forward to seeing you all on the trail and answering any questions for you. If you can donate or know any co. or corps. that may wish to please let me know.

Buzzsaw,

I am also hiking for charity. I am working with the Alzheimer’s Association. It is a lot of work but well worth the reward. I have also recruited someone to work as my coordinator while I am gone and to keep the fund raising going while I am gone. Some of the places that I have had success with are local restaurants, especially Outback, local sports stores and even a lot of the local bars I frequent. I am also planning some fund raising events where I work and am planning a walk.

Your best bet is to find a local charity and work with them as opposed to starting your own organization; the paperwork can take upwards of three months to get completed and by then March will be here. I started doing the paperwork, etc but it just to be too much and switched to a local charity.

Any questions shoot me an e-mail.
