does anyone know if packrats hostel(glencliff) is open in early december??? or can anyone recommend any other places to stay at that time of the year???

What’s up Pigpen! I don’t know about Packrats, but when I came through the Whites I stayed at a place in North Woodstock called the Carriage Motor Inn, on the north side of town across from the grocery store. It was about forty dollars a night in 2004, but being late September (leaf peeping season) this was far cheaper than anything else in town. What have you got in the works, anyhow?

I think the place is open year round. They are throwing a hiker event, Trashgiving the weekend of December 5th. If you’re around there, you should come!

As far as I know, the hostel in Glencliff is presently closed, but A-Train is correct. There will indeed be a hiker event there on 5-7 December. Details can be found in the “Hiker Get-together” forum at www.whiteblaze.net Pigpen, if you’re around, you should attend. Also, Chet might still be taking in hikers at his place in Lincoln, near North Woodstock. Your trail guidebook will give you details on this.
