I was grocery shopping with the missus today, having just come from The Great Outdoor Provision company in charlotte, NC ( i was there dreaming of a trhu hike) and ran across what seems to be a great and cheap quick meal. Idohoan Potatoes instant mashed potatoes in 4 1/2 cup serving ppouches…should be one serving to a hiker! has 4 ounces on potatoe flakes in a bag for a total of 5 ounces to carry per meal. requires only 2 cups of hot water, no butter or milk to prepare. comes in about 4 flavors…i bought four cheese, southwestern zesty(peppers and spice) and loaded baked(onions, bacon, chives. price was 99 cents a pouch. makes a little more than two cups of tasty mashed potatoes…two cup serving has 10 grams of fat, o cholesterol, 1 gram of salt and close to 80 grams of carbs, of which 8 is sugars. only 8 grams of protein though. Hungry jack makes something very similar also, i saw, for the same price. Would be nice to have with some jerky or pouched meat…

what is calorie amount? To get in my pack it has to have at least 100 cals per ounce, and im guessing that it does.Protein, vitamins and minerals are all importent but when i pack, calories are most what im concerned about. You can take suppliments for all the rest of the stuff.

don’t forget the olive oil, extra virgin, and if using a gravy mix, the southern biscut sausage gravy mix fits all above categories, high calorie and cheap.

and a vitamin. Hmm, I’ve been doing this all wrong. Does this meal come with a defibrillator for desert?
