Christmas Gifts

Does anybody here view the whole gift exchange tradition in a new way after doing the trail or is it just me going crazy.

I’m more anti-materialistic. The less material possessions I think we have, the more free we are to up and go. I feel more mobile, not anchored down to society…I hear this is a common post-hike sentiment. Last Christmas, I had a fair amount of goodies for backpacking gear in mind. This year, I’ll be happier with a lighter stocking. Conversely, my gifts to others are functional, compact, some might say weird, but I think those new high-efficiency light bulbs are cool. Regardless, I’m gonna enjoy this time with family and friends. Happy Holidays.

PS- what were you thinking 'tape?

I still have to pay off my trip, I just bought a new 427 for my street rod and I just ran over my wife’s laptop with the car. It’s dead. Boy this is fun…anyone want to buy some good used backpacking gear that has not been thru hiked with?

Quoted without permission…

“People with no money spending it on things they dont need for people they barely like who don’t really want what they get anyway.”

…just the anti materialism, like you said - it’s especially coming out to play these past few weeks in me

I prefer to make everything I give, when time permits, and just hang and play Monopoly. The way it used to be. I make chutney for stocking stuffers, wind powered lawn orniments for mom, home brew for dad…valium for myself, homiopathic of coarse.
