Citico/Slickrock Wilderness

Just got back from a 6 day trip into the Slickrock/Citico Wilderness in NC/TN. What an amazing area. Very remote so we almost saw no one which I liked. Elevations from 5400ft (Bob’s Bald) down to 2000ft (Slickrock Creek). 22 stream crossings on North Fork Citico Creek in the rain. 100 yards of this trail actually is in the creek! Some of the largest shagbark hickory and hemlock I have ever seen on the slickrock trail headed toward Naked Ground gap. One of the most incredible panoramic views I have ever seen from the side trail off of Hangover Lead to the “Hangover”. Very rugged with lots of down trees on the trails and a lot of rohdadendron overhanging. Limited signage. Possible problems with stream crossings with heavy rain. Ah, I love it. Enjoy…

No, that place stinks. No one should go there.

That has to be my favorite spot. I told my daughters that I want them to dump my ashes in the pool formed by Lower Falls. Be sure you filter your water if you drink from Slickrock Creek downstream of the falls :frowning:

I agree with Tha Wookie, no one should waste their time. Oh yea…and there isn’t a single trout up there.

I’m guiding a trip there this weekend. Doubt we’ll be alone, however. :frowning:

I can’t wait to explore more of Citico. I’ve only seen the NC side of things so far.
