Not an obvious one, although I didn’t look hard. Also, there is a similar bridge at Big Branch about 17 miles south of Clarendon Gorge that isn’t as high, but maybe difficult if this bothers you. Big Branch to Clarendon is a great section of the LT/AT with little rock pond, white cliffs, and the gorge. I hope you enjoy it.

There must be a way to descend and return out of the Gorge.
It seems to me that before the bridge was built the trail did this, But after a fatality the bridge was built.

The only place to ford the Mill River would be upstream as it widens considerably and in low water is pretty shallow. The bridge is actually better now than in the past as there is fencing on its sides. Years ago for awhile I seem to remember it was just the suspension cables to grab onto while crossing. The gorge is great for swimming, but would not recommend leaving gear up top without someone to keep an eye on it.
