hello all. i would kindly welcome any input on these new vegan? varieties. they seem a bit “sally like” if you will, in comparision to their “raw food” equivalents such as the larabar, (though i am pressing judgement from looks only). got beta? mucho gracias!

I enjoy these type of bars, and I find the Clif Nectar bars to taste much better than Larabars. But even “regular” energy bars can be prohibitively expensive on a thru-hike, and there will be few places on the AT where you can purchase these “upscale” bars.

Also consider that the Nectar bars are only 1.6oz and have just 150-180 calories, compared to a regular Clif bar that is 2.4oz and has 230-250 calories (and is considerably cheaper).

My favorite energy bars are from Bear Valley, particularly the Carob-Cocoa and Fruit & Nut flavors. They contain nonfat milk, though, so they are not vegan.

Leslie,
The absolute best I have found are Odwalla bars. Organic, high calorie, and taste great. Only problem is they are hard to find.

Lot’s of supermarkets carry Odwalla bars. Look for sales (they go for as low as 1 dollar each, I haven’t seen them lower for years)
