Can anyone give me some info about hiking from Newfoundland Gap parking lot, outside Gatlinburg, to Clingmans Dome? I am wondering about time and if it is a good dayhike. I am going to be in town with family but don’t want to rob too much time from them.

from newfound gap to clingmans it is 8.3 miles with an elevation gain of roughly 1600 feet. if my memory serves me right, it is a pretty easy walk except for the last mile or so.

The Clingmans Dome road from Newfound Gap is usually closed until about April 1. So plan to walk the 8.3 miles back to the Gap also.
