I’m thru hiking starting 7/19 for 5 weeks (8/22). What temperatures should I expect during this time of year? Are there any articles of clothing that I might not think about you would consider a must have? (ex. rain pants?)
Thanks
Clothes in July?

Rain pants (and rain jacket) - must have! A steady shower can get really cold up there. I would also take a light insulative layer (i.e. montbell down sweater has served me very well over the years), plus light gloves and a hat. Weather at 11,000 - 12,000 is very unpredictable. I thrued in 2005 and was glad, and used, all of the above clothing. Now that I live in southern Colorado, I’m even more convinced of its neccessity (and I hate unnecessary weight!) Happy Trails.

you’ll definitely want rain gear. i took an o2 rainsuit on my thru and was glad to have it. they made a great extra layer when it was 18 degrees at night in the san juans, and provided excellent rain protection during some downpours. plus the two stuff sacks make GREAT water proof overmitts for dry hands while hiking
u’ll also want gloves (i used my sleeping socks as gloves when hiking, and extra pair hiking socks as gloves while sleeping) and a beanie/bacalava. be prepared for some chilly nights in the high country.
and bring sun protection!
