Coincidences (?) on the trail?

Hello everyone! Just a fun post this pm. I had not one but two ODD things happen today to me; 1 where something small that I needed “appeared” where it shouldn’t when I was out & about at a store. Not a big thing but when I needed something, it just appeared. The other happened later, much more important. when I realized I misplaced something very important. Didn’t panic; I just figured that I’d left it in my car. I went out to look & it wasn’t there. But then out of nowhere, I got a wild kind idea of “I couldn’t have thrown it out when I took the garbage out…”. I took a chance & looked in the dumpster… (yecch)…Yep; :I’d done just that. Both occurances were a little more detailed & odd than I’m saying. And I felt mighty grateful. But it got me thinking. And I wondered what kind of coincidences (lost objects, finding what you needed, etc) have occurred to you on the trail that were quirky & kind of fun or odd?

I had left my hair tie back at the hostel. My hair was wet with sweat and driving me crazy I said I need a hair tie. About 2 minutes later one was just laying there in the middle of the trail. - I lost my bandana, was complaining about it when I found one all folded and clean hanging on a tree. - I was sitting up on top of a mountain in a lot of pain wishing I had a ride into a nearby town. A lady out running the mountain with her dog came out from some side trail I never even saw and said she would wait for me at the bottom and take me where ever I wanted to go…:girl

I got two, both happened at Clingmans Dome on two separate occasions, the first me and my dad were on a section hike and we came across the watch tower or whatev. and my dads cousin who he hadn’t seen in a few years was there with his family, pretty weird, then a few springs later i was on a section hike by myself and came across the same spot and there was only one person up there that morning, who happen to be from my small home town in Ohio, we talked a little bit then went our separate ways, again kinda weird

I took real interest in your comment Leah as I was reading over these many posts…This has happened to me too many times to count when out hiking or other adventures. I have discovered things, encountered animals, found items, heard music, even encountered friends not seen for years…all at the most unusual moments…Sometimes I am open to the message or lesson that is always present, and sometimes not…but they are there…Enjoy your adventures!

To DSD or anyone else…Of course, I’ve heard quotes by the Dalai Lama. But have never actually read any of his bks. Have you? If so, do you have any favorites that are readable & enjoyable?

First AT hike on Springer I met 3 guys from Jacksonville, Florida which is where I live. Same trip came off the trail and went to Blue Ridge Pizza Hut. As I walked in one the of workers asked if I was from Jacksonville (could have been from the Jags shirt I was wearing)then he said his mom works there. Through conversation I found out I actually knew his mom as we are both supervisors for the same State agency. It truly is a much smaller worl that we think!

I started my 2004 hike in Hot Springs, meeting up with a group of like-minded women. But we shortly went our separate ways. I continued to Kent CT where I got off the trail. A month later I spent several days in Baxter including a hike up Katahdin with my brother. As I neared the summit, there was one of the women I’d started my hike with coming down! She’d section hiked parts of the trail since I’d last seen her and was finishing up. What are the chances?

“The Art of Happiness” is a profound book by the Dalai Lama and would make great reading while out on the trail. It is worth its weight to carry it, but also take a pen as if you’re like me, you might end up making notes as you wander through its pages…
I had to also post about a special coincidence that happened last summer… After a long trip out, where I had placed a few Summit Stones, I ended up sitting in a coffee house resting my old bones. Now the stones are a little project of my own and I don’t expect to ever really meet someone who finds them…but here I was, privy to a conversation about someone who had, miles outback of nowhere. How we had coincidentally sat down in the same place, at the next table, was a real bit of serendipity…
You never know with synchronicity…

It would be more freaky if there were no coincidences.
