Use the layering method. Check out past thru-hikers journals to see what they wore and see what works for you. Are you a cold sleeeper? It makes a difference. I invested in smartwool log tee and pants. Carried them the whole way. Somewhere around Pearisburg, VA you can send your winter gear home. I had a base layer and added smartwool over that. Then a fleece or down compressible wind barrier with a rain jacket overtop. I would mix these up depending on the temps. But you have to find what works for you and your budget.
