“college kids also wear Vasque Sundowners, A The North Face Mountain Parka ($350+ Goretex jacket), and Carry Nalgene bottles around campus. Why? Because they copy what they WISH they could do” ~ I am a junior at U of TN, knoxville (roll over tide)and wear my Asolo 520’s, The North Face Mountain Light Jacket, and my Nalgene Bottles around campus simply because my backpacking gear costs so much I cant afford normal clothes!!!..oh and I wear the stuff because I DO do it…but those who pose do annoy the hell out of me.

U got posers at UNC too. Plenty of 'em. Betcha 60% of Nalgene’s profit is from the posers. That’s all fine and dandy, I don’t much care, but when my mom (who teaches art) tells me about these 11 year old brats walking around with $300 gore-tex North Face jackets, I just gotta laugh. Oh yeah, and she teaches art in the basement of my house and those rich brats one day stole some black diamond biners from my rack. WHAT THE HELL!!! see what you started…

By, the way SS, I totaly agree with one of your statements reguarding oil burning, greenhouse gas creating, space ships. If you know what I mean. But, really, I carry around the same crap too. And I also keep a fully loaded pack in my trunk with a week’s worth of food…JUST INCASE.

hehe. I keep alot in my trusty space ship…not a full pack but tent, hiking stick, nalgene bottles, my rain shell, and other misc. hiking trash. Oh…at trailplace WF erased my first account because I posted a note saying another forum was available…seems he wants to be the only game in town. I am also quite sure he deleted my second account after my little political outburst (funny thing is i didnt vote b/c i missed the registration deadline). but to say a fellow/future thru hiker is alien b/c of his or her opinon is downright annoying. anyhow, do you have a gear list? i dont think i can find your web address.

Hey Scruffy,
I tried posting what I felt was a legitamate question about posting a link to this place and he erased it too. He has got to keep his costomers somehow… Scruffy, what name do you use over there?.. if you don’t mind me asking. I agree, that post was not very well thought out (WF’s rant).
