Colorado Trail Waypoints

For the past several years we have sold The Colorado Trail waypoints via the Bear Creek Survey Service website for $11. We have used that money to help defray the costs of the website and considerable time involved in producing up to date files each year. Earlier this year someone who has some axe to grind about this began posting the data on pirate web sites. Recently I received a call from someone who was distraught because she had Googled “Colorado Trail Waypoints” then downloaded the data from somewhere other than my website. It came with an attached virus that destroyed the registry on her pc when she opened the files. I suspect that the same person who put it on the pirate sites in the first place is responsible. What I had previously been concerned about is that someone would alter the waypoint locations and people would get lost or misdirected, but the virus was unexpected.

In view of all this I have restructured the web site so the waypoints are now free of charge to help prevent future incidents. The waypoints may be obtained by going to http://www.bearcreeksurvey.com and following the Waypoints link on the main page. Feel free to download them, share them, whatever. I will evaluate whether it is economically feasible to continue maintenance of the website at some time in the future.

best wishes,

That is mighty generous bearcreek. Maybe you could make a donation optional? These forums get trolled a lot too. APPLE

I would prefer it if people just sent a few buck to the Colorado Trail Foundation. They will put it to good use.

I’m sure that folks who donate to the CT Foundation could ask that their donation go to support the waypoints if that is what the donor wanted.

I had planned on downloading and using your waypoints for my thru this summer. I guess I’ll be throwing a couple dollars at the CT foundation in your honor then instead

Funny thing about this topic. Just today before seeing this forum I paid the $31.00 for the waypoints on two SD cards. Is it really free? Not that I mind paying but if it is free why is there still a way to get charged?

The data is available as a free download. There is still a link on the website where you can pay $31 to cover the cost of two micro SD cards that are pre-programmed and ready to go. That is all clearly detailed on the website. It’s a bit much to expect somebody to buy your cards for you.

I located your order information, cancelled it, and have refunded the $31. You are on your own as far as cards go.

Sorry, you had every right to cancel my order.

Bearcreek,

Are you posting a link so those wishing to donate for the waypoints can help you with the costs?

John

We have put a Paypal donation button on the website where you download the waypoints.

Thanks to all of you for your support.

I can not get the waypoint page to load. It shows address not valid on the waypoint tab of the website.

I just tested it on several computers and it worked. Try entering this direct link:
