Confirming/contacting maildrops, anyone else done it already?

So I’m in the last stage of my planning, contacting the few places I’m using for maildrops to make sure they’re still there and the address I have is correct. Before I go to all the trouble of making phone calls, emails, etc. and bothering these people, I thought I’d check here and see if anyone else has already done the same.

Here’s where I’m getting packages, and the address I have. If anyone knows anything about the status of these places or if I have the wrong address, any additional comments, feel free to input.

Hi nuts. Just a few comments. Everything looks good except Echo Lake is a post office so you can mail it USPS general delivery. They have odd hours sometimes letting you in to get your package during off hours. And unfortunately, Callahans burnt to the ground about a week after we were there last year. Very sad. Hyatt Lake Resort at mile 1750.2 might substitute as a maildrop for Callahan’s at mile 1726.6 and it is an easy hike.

Callahan’s is still accepting maildrops. Packages go to the owner’s home, which is on the same property as Callahan’s. For information, go to www.pcthandbook.com, then click on the PCT Updates file. Callahan’s information is in section 19 of the updates.

nice, thanks for the info.
by the way, anyone know if it matters which method I use to send stuff to Kennedy Meadows? Yogi’s book has two addresses, one is a P.O. box for USPS, and there’s another address listed for UPS, FedEx, etc. I was thinking of going with the UPS/FedEx address since it looks like they’ll bring it right to the store. I don’t want to risk having my package be sitting at the P.O. in town because they hadn’t brought it up yet. Comments?

I would definitely send it ups or fedex, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. whatever you do, don’t send any maildrops parcel post, regardless of how far in advance it is, and especially not to the small towns. I still remember arriving at sierra city to pick up our maildrop, which was there (sent a few days prior via priority mail) and meeting 3 other hikers whose packages hadn’t arrived yet (even though they had sent them several weeks before).
