I, and my sister, are looking at doing the Conn section of the AT in June. Plan is to start @ Conn mass boarder & end @ AT train station on a sat or sunday. Are there any suggestions/comments on time alotments/travel to trail from local airport(?)/etc…
We did the southern GSMNF @ 8 - 12mls/day in spring last year.

In June the black flies and 'skeeters hunt pretty heavy up here, so bring abit of DEET in case. The trail is just to the western ridge of Sheffield, Mass. and there are trailheads there that take you to north of the CT/MASS line, which is in a pretty ravine. Otherwise, along Rt. 41 north of Salisbury, Ct. there are trails that get you just south (two miles) of the border. You’ll find Ct. much easier than the Smokes, with the southern section most of a river walk. The towns of Cornwall Bridge and Kent make good townfood stops, if you’re into that. And don’t drink from the Housatonic unless mixed with enough gin. Good-willed luck! And remember, no fires along the Ct. portion of the AT…the local wealthy elite don’t want to see that nasty smoke from their enclaves.

If you hit the timing right pink and white laurel will be blooming. The section from Race Mtn south to Salisbury is very nice to begin with, add the blooms and it will be memorable.

Thanks all. Is there a place to leave a car or easy way to get to the trail from airport?
