That’s pretty snobby and elitist to feed just thru-hikers. Plenty of folks are doing big sections in that area.

Think I’ll put my name to this one.

Let’s say I’m section hiking from Springer to Clingmans. I’m with someone else that’s thru-hiking. We get to, say, Franklin, where there is a thru-hiker only buffet. And by that time, three so-called thru-hikers have already left the trail, and a day later, two other thru-hikers leave the trail. They all get fed. The lowly section-hiker? The shaft.

Do you see what I’m getting at? I mean, I went through the phase when I thought thru-hikers were all that and a bag of beer nuts. I still have huge respect for them, but for those who ONLY cater strictly to thrus? No.

If some guy gets off at Neels Gap - as so many do - but he calls himself a thru-hiker, why is he better - or more deserving of special treatment - than someone who is sectioning all the way to Hiawassee?

Something smells rotten in Denmark, if you get my drift. Starting to look like a turd in a punchbowl.

Ouch! You would surely want to check it out whether I was a thru-hiker or a section hiker. Brothers are donating the meal on an annual basis; my guess is that folks who are this generous would welcome everyone royally.

Posting the info was done at the request of a hiker who happened to hear about it.

As a former thru, I’d welcome section hikers to a feed. Just don’t go smelling all nice and acting all civilized, thats all. :boy :cheers

If you want to really feel at home, wear your smelliest clothes and try to have at least SOME beard stubble (men).
