Looking to see if anyone can give me an idea of what they spent on the CDT. I’ve seen estimates that range between $2000-$5000. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

The cost of a CDT trip is completely in your hands. I’m not much for staying in towns or spending a lot of money along the trail. Hence, my CDT hike was one of the cheaper I know of, but others spend a small fortune. It just depends on what you need while on the trail.
TwoCan
Unlike TwoCan, I used the CDT as a way to see some towns, too, like Logger Days in Darby, and a music festival in Helena, plus a stay at Old Faithful–you get the picture. It is possible to spend $5000, and I think I did it. And to me it was worth every penny.
Good luck and enjoy your hike.
Garlic
I think I spent about $3500 or so on the CDT, and that included a lot of unnecessary crap like booze. There aren’t a lot of temptations in the form of hotels, and the lack of a huge “party scene” like the AT and PCT make for more solo hiking. Hiking solo made me spend less money, since I wasn’t going with the flow and staying in towns like I did on the AT.
I always get about $4000 in my savings account before a hiking season and wing it, just in case I need extra. And this way I don’t have to worry about spending too much and having to get off trail due to financial reasons. I started out in Montana drinking microbrew, but ended drinking Pabst in New Mexico.

Its up to the individual to how much he or she wants to spend. If your on a limited income than don’t spend money you don’t have my friend.
You can do it either the hobo way or slurge. Its up to you.
