Cost of Thru-Hike

Trekking Trav,

Given your overall circumstances, I would urge you to take what money you have or are able to raise, and just go.

Ultimately, you don’t have to finish the “through-hike”, most don’t. But, you’re in a good spot, lifewise, to set off on a potentially fantastic adventure.

Just go and see how far you get, regardless of what you have in your pocket. However it turns out, no matter how far you get, whether you finish or not, you’ll be a winner, never regret it, and always be glad you did.

Now get going.

Hey, there are still a couple of months left. You should be able to save a little more money before you go.

As the BH Surfers say in there song: “Its better to regret something you’ve done then something you haven’t done”.

I agree with most of the previous posts. I completed my thru-hike this past summer at a cost of about $2500. The budget was rather strained by the time I hit Maine but if you already have $3000 you’re good to go. Just watch those town stops though. If you end up going its something that you will not regret. The best people in the world are on the trail.
