Couple of days away from leaving

My question is this, weather, snow cover etc…which would be the best idea…starting in cabazon and hiking North or starting in at the Saulfleys and heading North/South?

I want to avoid heavily snow laden trails, so any advice right now would be great.

Cold is fine, heavy snow I dont want.

We just had some snow but also some cool sunny days too. There is a bit of snow in the hills but easy going. Just did the Cajon Pass to Whitewater leg. Nice, noone out but some crews doing trail maintenence. Good Job Boys.
The trail north of Saufley’s is windy now-some gusts 30-40 knots. At this moment, Jan 15, 2007, you can hike south to the border with minimal snow on the trail but keep track of storms rolling through, they can dump 3-4 feet on you especially in Idyllwild
