From the sounds of things, there was a lot of spring snow this year. I’m starting in Yosemite in early July, will I need crampons? Will hiking shoes and stubborn determination be enough?

Probly not, Yo is just not that high in the sky, ain’t no tricky passes, but might be some tricky creek x-ings. However, Wind rivers might be more trickaceous but by early July, I didn’t even need my Austria-Alpin midi crampons in glacier park in 2004 cuz it had all done melted out (or the ice axe i unfortunately carried).
