Crazy Cook - Continental Divide Trail

The CDTA mapping crew just finished mapping the Crazy Cook to Lordsburg stretch. We put up all the downed posts and flagged a few confusing spots so it’s as easy to find as it ever will be. It is absolutely drop dead gorgeous out there this year with huge fields of poppys and other flowers. Highly recommended

I love walking in NM!! I did the Columbus Route which was great, but I would love to walk the CC route some day.

Thanks Bearcreek!!

Wow, thanks! I’m looking forward to not getting lost and am glad to hear it’s beautiful this year.

After a harrowing drive down bumpy dirt roads to reach the BLM wate cache drop off spots, 30-30 and I (FireBall) reached the CC starting poing (now a nice covered pavilion) around noon on 04/15/10. After wishing my wife good luck on her drive back to Lordsburg, we started our hike and finished 5 days later (04/19/10) around 11:30 a.m. Except for overdoing it on Day 2 (I carried too much water) the hike was great, well marked and WELL WATERED! The last point is important. There are several excellent water sources on the trek from NM 113 to Animus Road. You can even take a partial shower at one spot just before you do the final walk up to Pyramid Mt. Good luck to all - we are now off to the ADZPCTKO. FireBall

[In retrospect, we highly recommend others to use Sam for this transit - if possible] After wishing my wife good luck on her drive back to Lordsburg, we started our hike and finished 5 days later (04/19/10) around 11:30 a.m. Except for overdoing it on Day 2 (I carried too much water and overly exhausted myself) the hike was great, well marked and WELL WATERED! Hot Chocolate (my wife), 30-30 and I are now off to the ADZPCTKO. We’ll be back on the CDT in a few days.

Good luck to all! FireBall
