CT Adopts More of the CDT

The CTF has just offically adopted the 80 miles of the CDT (over Hope Pass) from Twin Lakes south to 8 miles south of Monarch Pass as part of the CT. This adoption does NOT add to the total length of the CT; instead, it give hikers a CHOICE of routes heading south from Twin Lakes. A new CT DAta Book and a new CT Map Book will be published in early 2013, but a new CT Guidebook will not. Details of the new route will appear on the CTF website.

It’s called the “Collegiate West 80” or simply “Collegiate West”. The existing CT route is now called “Collegiate East”.

Check the CTF website or their Facebook page for more details.

This is a win-win for all CDT and CT hikers and horsemen. With the adoption, this part of the CDT will get better signage and regular trail maintenance. Several reroutes are planned as well in the coming years.CT hikers get a choice of routes, and section hikers get a 160 mile loop trail around the Collegiate Peaks Wildrness that should become one of Colorado’s most popular hikes.
