Comparing the databook and guidebook, it appears that there is a difference in mileage from Denver of about 1.2 miles, I notice this around Carson Saddle. Does anyone know which book is the more reliable source of mileage throughout the trail? For reference I am looking at the 5th Edition Databook and the 8th edition guidebook.

The Data Book is correct. There was a route adjustment and re-survey in Segment 5 near Kenosha Pass that was not accounted for in the Guidebook.
This means you will get to Durango 20 minutes earlier than you first thought.
