Cumbress Pass(able?)

I intend to leave Grants, NM in mid-may and stop at Cumbress Pass two weeks later. I know the snow north of Cumbress always presnts problems for May/early June hikers, but what about south of the pass? Presuming an everage snow year, is the Ghost Ranch-Cumbress stretch doable without too much postholing? Thanks.

I doubt you’ll see any snow along the route south of Cumbres Pass. I hiked it in mid May in an average snow year and I didn’t.

Piece of Cake. North is a different matter.

You’ll possibly run into snow in San Pedro Parks, Mt. Taylor and in the Carson forest, but it isn’t usually difficult to get through. You can roadwalk around Mt. Taylor. Navigation in San Pedro Parks might be a little problem, but thruhikers usually get through just fine.
