I have super curly hair down past my shoulders, and I have been having this same internal debate. I’ve thought of cutting it all off and giving it to the charity that makes wigs for people that have cancer (this may not be an option for you girls :P), and I’ve also thought about just going for dreads. No hair would make for easier tick checks!

Gosh can I relate!!! Whenever I’ve been out camping, hair-care has been a major “thing” for me. I have wild curls; fine & in a non defined curl pattern. My blow drier is my best friend @ home. A friend of mine came to visit last yr; who has my kind of hair; & she got it cut short & in a kind of tailored style. It looked super on her; so I gave in, & haven’t regretted it one single day. SO much LESS fussing w/it, having it be frizzy, & looks better. Having it short allows it to actually look straighter when I use a product on it. And it stays that way all day. No more “emergency hair care sessions”. After I cut it, a friend who’s hair is fine & fly-away frizzy like mine, did the same thing, & she look GREAT. She’d put mini braids in her hair, but then couldn’t get them out; they became really matted & ugly. She had to cut them out. Now she loves her short 'do.
I do still use “product” (I carry a small bottle of a combo of 2 diff types when i travel.) Given the tailored cut & the use of product, the overall cut is MUCH MUCH Much less frizzy, wild, & problematic. I used to have to wash my hair every day just to control it. Now I don’t absol. have to wash it or use a blowdrier, tho I usually do @ home.
Whatever you decide, good luck! All I can say is that I couldn’t be happier w/ a “less fuss” short look.

Hmm-thats one for “queer eye for the stright guy”.Panties are good though.
old&in the way
I too have super curly, super long hair. The best way I have found to “contain” it is to pull it back in a pony tail, and use a pony tail holder every three inches or so. It is the only way I have found to keep my hair from getting extremely tangled. It works better for me than braiding, which leaves my hair a big mess after sleeping on it for one night.
For Reggaiemylitis…if you want to do the charity “hair for wigs”, you need to go to a salon or barber shop and have them do it. They have to put your hair in a pony tail and cut it that way, or it can’t be used. Just a lil fyi!

I have a friend who has done it, so I’ll find out where he went. I will most likely go that route. It will grow back…HOPEFULLY!! :tongue
I’ll miss it though. The ladies love it!!!
