Cyber Cafes - Appalachian Trail

Hello all,

I was wondering about the best places to download pictures from digital cameras, make CDs from these, and then possibly upload them onto trailjournals or whiteblaze. I have an SD card reader that is pretty light (carry or push box item) and works well. Jaws said Robinsville library (near Fontana Dam) let him upload pics there. This way I would not have to send the cards or CDs (say made at Wal Marts, etc.) home but could directly upload or at worst send the CD vice the card.

Any good ideas?

PS-Sorry if this has been discussed before but my search on the forums yielded nothing!

Two things - don’t be a computer hog. There are lots of hikers that will be wanting to use the computer to check email.

And, depending on the number of pictures you take, it could take you a long time to download everything and many libraries have 30 minute rules, plus when you hit town you’ll have lots to do like eat, shower, sleep, laundry, call family, hang with fellow hiker friends, resupply, etc etc. When I hit town I barely felt like I had enough time to relax let alone catch up with journals etc.

It’s a nice idea, but it may be too time consuming. I found that sending the cards home and relying on a trusted sibling to get the pics uploaded onto TJ’s worked best.

Dont know which ones, but last year some Libraries were only allowing locals to check and send emails. I would not rely on the kindness of local libraries to upload pics. Mnay do have some sort of restrictions, whether it be time constraint or content censorship. AT the library in Waynesboro, I was not allowed to type the word LICKING, it was censored. Another hiker could not type the word HITLER.
