Any great tips on how to keep bread from getting all smushed before I add the PB and J…or since it all ends up the same just forget about it.

I saw a dude with a loaf swingin on the outside of his pack, I don’t see why not…

try tortillas instead - i’ve read they keep better, and obviously the “smush” isn’t as much a concern.

I have been taking tortillas with me on hikes for several years and they work great and take up less room and weight

Flour tortillas are best but small “pita pockets” work as well, if you can find them along the trail. The pita pockets also come in flavors which you can use to spice up a sandwich

Stack 'em up. They pack well. You can even make pizza with 'em.

There were a couple of times that I carried regular bread on the trail. Yes, it does get smashed up a bit, but it worked well for PB and J sandwiches. Sometimes I would pre smash it before it went into my pack. It took up less space that way.

Otherwise I carried english muffins.

I met someone last year who bought tortillas, PB & J at the store, and then made PB & J rollups and wrapped the whole thing in plastic wrap. Then he didn’t have to carry the PB & J jars, and didn’t have to worry about them getting squished.
