I’m starting a solo NOBO on the 4th of march and am trying to orchestrate having a friend meet up with me to hike Shenandoah. I’m trying to figure out the best way to get him to Waynesboro VA from DC. Any suggestions?

The big dog no longer serves Waynesboro but they do serve Charlottesville about 20 miles east. That’s a start.

Amtrak also runs from DC to Charlottesville.

I make that trip a lot of weekends in the spring and summer to hike and camp. Let me know a week or so in advance and your friend can catch a ride with me.

I have a list of folks, including me, who do shuttles for hikers to and from Waynesboro. Waynesboro has an awesome Trail Angel Network! E-mail me with details including departure times, pick up and drop off locations, etc, and I’ll see if I can come up with anything in addition to the bus or train. I live in Waynesboro, VA
