I recently completed a section hike from Campo to Warner Springs, and thought I’d post a little info on the H2O situation. We haven’t had much rain in S. Cali this year so far, so I was a bit surprised to still find water in the following locations:
Mile 4.3 Creeklet - stream running well and clean
Mile 16 Hauser Creek - stream running well and clean
Lake Morena Park - water faucets ON
Mile 24.5 Cotton Wood Creek - got my feet a little wet here. Stream running very well
Mile 26 Cotton Wood Creek - small treek placed over creek to cross on.
Mile 26.4 Boulder Oaks Campground - water faucet ON
Mile 32.4 Fred Canyon - NO water running here
Mile 38.1 Long Canyon - very small creek, running well and clean though
Mount Laguna Store - Open 9-5. Slightly expensive
Mile 52.7 Pioneer Mail picnic area - Water turned ON
Mile 58.7 Lucky 5 water cache - about 10 gallons when I went through
Mile 68.4 Rodriguez Spur Truck Trail - water tank was full, but looked questionable. Filtered just to be safe.
Mile 77.6 Scissors Crossing - About 15 very welcomed gallons caches here!
Mile 91.2 - Third Gate - Several gallons caches here
Mile 101.4 Barrel Springs - Overflowing, clean and tasted GREAT!
Mile 105.2 San Ysidro creek - flowing very well. A lot of animals in the area. Cows, Wild Turkey, etc… filtered just to be safe.
WARNER SPRINGS - Store is a bit expensive, but welcomed. The Grill at the golf course next door is most excellent. The Rueben sandwich with the potato salad is highly recommended.
Well, that’s my report. If these creeks are running well now, before we’ve had our good rains and snow, they should be running well come April for the potential tru-hikers.
Peace,
Crazy Legs
