Where can I expect to encounter problems of finding denatured alcohol? (Pepsi stove)

No problem, Zam, it’s everywhere. Sold by the the ounce or fill. Usually about a dollar or so for a fill, 20ozs.

for the trail guides to arrive by mail. So far everything is going as planned just one thing.
I haven’t leased my apartment yet…it’s slow around here these days.

okay, an admittedly stupid question . . . where do you get it? grocery? hardware? pharmacy? all i seem to be able to find locally is rubbing alcohol. am i missing a secret password or something? thanks in advance.

At a hardware store as Denatured Alcohol or Mineral Spirits or HEET.

At a Walmart/Department Store as the above and also as Sterno Liquid.

At a drug store as Rubbing Alcohol (this is the weakest percentage you can get).

At a liquor store/package store - any alcohol over say 150 proof (Rom Rico Rum; Everclear, etc.).

Fuel for alcohol stoves is pretty easy to find around the AT. Denatured is available at most outfitters, and hardware stores (used as marine fuel or shellac thinner usually.) Gas line antifreeze that’s based on methanol will work (read the warnings on the back to see if it has methanol/methyl alcohol.) Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol can be used as well, but it’s not a very good fuel so avoid it when you can. Mineral spirits is not alcohol, although it might work in an alcohol stove (I haven’t tried.)

I bought my denatured alcohol at Lowes for 3.97, 32 oz.
