Just wanted to post and mention that although the distance of the AT is staggering, the accomplishment doesn’t begin and end there. Lets not forget that every day involves rigorous exercise, not just a 20 mile saunter along a flat grade.
I just a read a journal entry of a random hiker on the AT who was somewhere outside of Damascus. It made me think about what that person has already been through to reach that point. It’s no picnic, but then again, it’s the bestest tasting picnic in the world.
Just my little shout out to the masses who hike and the minority who thruhike. Keep on hiking! Good luck to all thruhikers this season, be it on whichever trail.
