Can someone direct me to a concise chart detailing distances between major landmarks and campsites along the John Muir Trail? Any info, excels spreadsheet or website will be appreciated.
Thanx.

Hi Julian,
The following Web site: http://alumnus.caltech.edu/~rbell/johnmuir.htm contains a detailed elevatation and landmark distance spreadsheat. It does not include campsites. When planning my trip I used this as a way to judge distances and elevation gains. From the JMT trail journals you can most likely find a campsite recommendation for the area you are looking at. There are some good recommendations in the forums on spots to avoid (bear and hiker festated).
Enjoy the hike!

The chart referenced above by OBM was a GREAT resource, and I found it to be very helpful while planning my JMT hike last summer. However, there is an error in the posted list of mileages and landmarks.
Around mile 115-125: the chart depicts Evolution Creek as a landmark that comes after Evolution Lake, but this is not true. The Evolution Creek crossing is in Evolution meadow, before McClure and Colby. (Sidenote - what a spectacular area on the trail!!)
I didn’t notice any other inconsistencies, and was really grateful to have found this while building my itinerary. I actually shrunk and laminated my spreadsheet to bring along on the trail in lieu of lugging one of the guide books along. Included emergency phone numbers, etc. too. If you’d like a copy, feel free to email me and I’ll share.
Happy trails!!
Lisa
