Can anyone tell me if there are any other sections of the AT dogs are not allowed, besides the Smokies? How do you handle this situation on a through hike??

I think they are not allowed in Baxter state park but I am not sure about that. I was thinking, just tell them your dog is your Seeing Eye dog and you should be good to go.

Dogs are most definitely NOT allowed in Baxter. There is a Ranger office right at Katahdin Springs campground - where you start up Katahdin. They’re going to notice both the dog and the fact you aren’t blind.
Also, dogs aren’t allowed in the Shenandoahs unless leashed.

There are kennel services that will meet you on the trail and board your dog and meet you on the other side of th4e Smokies. I remember in 2000 when Otto and Raven went through that he made arraingments with some lady to pick up Raven at Fontana Dam and meet him at a road crossing at a specified time and date at the other end of the park. I assume the same arraingment can be made at Baxter.

Dogs do not belong on hiking trails. Period. A few years ago I was hiking to a hot springs when a couple let their dog intimidate me at a trail junction, just to prove a point. These jerks also had their tent set up “next” to the springs.
I got my revenge the next day by hiking out to the trailhead, opening their car door, taking a dump on the driver’s seat and pissing on the passenger seat. I wanted to make their experience as nice as mine.

Don’t you people get bored talking about the same things all the time. This site is a joke and so are many of the people that base their lives around it.

Just like any small town, brother. Villiage idiots are everywhere.

Can anyone tell me if there are any other sections of the AT goats are not allowed, besides the Smokies? I would like to strap about 25 pounds of gear to my Nubian goat and thru-hike the AT with her in 2006. Her name is Willy Kay and she loves to climb. She also provides about 3 quarts of fresh milk per day.
