I think the ??? is genuine. I know nopain is hiking the pct this year and is probably really wondering. I do not think he was trying to debate whether or not dogs on the trail is a good idea.

I don’t think there are any legal restrictions on dogs. However, you will want to check with the various park service sites to make sure. Some NPs do not allow dogs in the back country. Specifically, you will want to check the websites of: Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Lassen, Crate, Mount Rainier, North Cascades. Also, you’ll need to deal with the Canadians and immigrations. You don’t spend much time in Lassen, Crater, Rainier, or North Cascades, so you might be able to slip through. All can be crossed in a day, or even a few hours.

Remember that Can and Should are two different questions.
