Dogs on The AT - Appalachian Trail

#1

I am thru-hiking the AT starting in Georgia(FEB)

I have a six year old yellow lab that i am thinking about bringing with me. He is well behaved and a good hiker.

Please provide feedback on bringing dogs on the trail.
Does it get to be a pain in the ass?
Is it wise to hike 2000 plus miles with a dog?

Should he wear booties?

Thanks,

Dave

Oh s**t! Can o’ worms. Don’t stay in shelters. Don’t let him drink out of, stand in, pee or poop in any water sources. You carry his food/water. Most motels and hostels won’t allow your dog. Most folks that hike with a dog don’t make it. Yes it is a pain in the arse.

  1. Click on “Search the Forum”

  2. Type “dogs” in the “Text in Title” box

  3. Clear your schedule for the next 2 or 3 days and read the comments.

Good luck.
