Dogs - Pacific Crest Trail

I have a dog that is in great shape. Loves to hike. Would thoroughly enjoy the trip. I read that dogs are not allowed on parts of the trail. So if I bring him along and run into a Ranger, is it a big fine? Will they kick me off the trail? Or just give me a ticket or a and let me go?

I asked this question about hiking through the Smoky Mtns along the AT since its a National Park… I was told it depends on the Rangers attitude towards dogs and how the dog acts. Ive heard others say they literally walk you and the dog out of the woods and kick you out of the park with a ticket…

I met some hikers in Old Station on the PCT who had just been kicked out of Lassen Volcanic Natl Park for bringing their dog through it.

They and their dog were unceremoniously put in a vehicle, driven to the nearest gate, and dropped off at the road, far from the trail. I don’t know if they got a ticket; they didn’t say and I didn’t ask. They had just finished a LONG roadwalk.

Legalities aside, do your dog a favor and don’t try it. Use the search function on any PCT forum and you’ll get loads of threads all on the same subject. It’s an annual feeding frenzy topic, just like guns.

Thank you wandering Bob. I really appreciate it. I’ll take your advice. I think I’ll probably just take him as far as Kennedy meadows and then have somebody pick him up there. I really appreciate you, thanks again.
