Somehow and I are through section 3. Many thanks for the great condition of the trail.

Thanks to a rainstorm the night before we were able to find water puddled in a rock about 4 miles into section 2. Otherwise we would have had to turn back.

The fire station toward the end of two has a life saving spigot. I realize your passed it now but maybe this will be of some help to others in the future.

Thanks for the info, we did get water there before going on.

We were carrying over a gallon apiece and using it faster than we had planned. We decided that if we didn’t find something soon, we’d “safety out” going back the way we came. We knew there might be puddles on the rocks someplace as it had rained for awhile the night before. Fortunately, we found a little trickle into a small hollow that refilled about as fast as we pumped it out with the filter.

Anyway, the saga continues. Today I had to make a trip into REI to buy a new tent. And there was a bad foot that needs a couple days to heal. We will be back on the trail on Tuesday morning on section 4.

Segment 4 is cool. There is a decent ascent at the beginning but good water and a campsite half way through when you get into long gulch. The long gulch walk is a looong one but beautiful.

Pacemaker, thanks for the info on the water on segment 4.

We are only going to do segment 6 up to mile 19.7. I’m trying to figure out the best approach to crossing Georgia pass.

We were thinking of camping near the water at mile 6.

Is it safe to camp near the water at mile 11.7 or is that above the treeline? If not is there some water before mile 17.1?

We won’t be able to do the longer miles that week.

Thanks,

Gershon

There was a lot of snow when I went through on 7/5. I planned on camping at 17.1 also but settled for this gorgeous site at the top mile 16 before you descend down to 17.1. There is a fir ring and a pond. You can here the river from atop but is still a mile away. Mile 17.1 has excellent sites as well.

If I remember correct at mile 6 when you cross the bridge there is a good spot to camp. I also remember fighting the sceeters as I filtered water.

Georgia pass is awesome but not many opportunities to camp up there, your too exposed.
