Down Jackets - Appalachian Trail

We were at EMS today and I was looking at 800 count down jackets. They have no weight to them, but are supposed to be very warm. I’ve seen other types advertised (Marmot Zeus and Venus). Has any one tried this type of jacket? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks

We went with hand made ones from Feathered Friends. www.featheredfriends.com/Picasso/Garments/Lt/Helios.html

Specifically the Helios. No frills, snug fit. And they can make to your specs.

On sale at two of these three mail order enterprises: REI, BackCountry, Campmor.

Sorry I can’t recall which two.

One of them has the jacket at $119; the other at $129; down from $160. The mail order enterprise with the higher price has all colors and sizes, which the other does not.

You’re welcome. Glad you got one. All the reviews were good. Looks like a solid piece of gear.

I used the Patagonia Down Sweater Vest to hike in, and a Montbell Jacket for camp. Both are equally amazing. I ended up sleeping in the vest on really cold nights, and the jacket paired up with your extra clothes make a good pillow.

As we were looking at the jackets in the store, we rolled it up in the pocket…my first thought was…that’ll make a good pillow.
